ECD services

Khanimamba Training and Resource centre provide ECD Service to communities and children who cannot afford to pay for the ECD service. The main aim of this programme is to increase ECD access to needy communities and families.  This is done through the ECD Mobile, Playgroups, Family Home Visiting Programme, ECD Model Centre and  ECD Parenting programme.

Khanimamba currently has 2 Playgroups operate in Musina at Marooi A and B farm. The other 2 are in Malamulele at Shipurapureni and Rhulani informal settlements. These programmes operate for three hours for four days a week. Unlike the ECD mobile, very limited re-sources are provided as there is no space or vehicle to store or transport the learning resources daily. We still have to ensure that Covid 19 Protocols are observed at all times. 184 children were reached through this programme during 2020/21.

Khanimamba Early Childhood Development  Playgroup is one of the programmes which are offered by Khanimamba training and resource centre. The activities that are offered at  Khanimamba Early Childhood Development Playgroup are as follows:

Daily programme activities

This programme runs from Monday to Thursday for 3 hours.

Khanimamba has been running an ECD Mobile in Vhembe since 2016. The aim of the programme is to increase ECD access to communities where there is inadequate or no ECD service, by raising awareness of the importance of ECD programmes in the children’s life. The programme operates in Musina Local Municipality at the following villages and/or farms: Tshivhaloni, Tshirundzini, Matatana, Gundani, Mpumbuluni villages, Schuitdrift and Tshivhume farms. Currently the programme has successfully taken care of 256 children. To date we have assisted 6 communities where the programme was initiated to establish their community ECD Centres and they are now registered with the Department of Social Development.

Khanimamba Early Childhood Development Mobile is one of the programmes which are offered by Khanimamba training and resource centre. The activities that are offered at Khanimamba Early Childhood Development Mobile are as follows:

Daily programme activities:

This programme runs from Monday to Thursday for 3 hours

KTRC ecd family home visiting

49 Families in 14C are participating in the Home Visiting Programme. The programme currently caters for 121 children from 3 months to 9 years. The programme aims to provide ECD service to children while assisting to capacitate the parents or caregivers on the importance of their involvement in their children's development. 183 Children are reached each year through the above ECD Services programmes.

Khanimamba Early Childhood Development Familiy Home Visiting is one of the programmes which are offered by Khanimamba training and resource centre. The activities that are offered at Khanimamba Early Childhood Development Family Home Visiting are as follows:

 

Daily programme activities

This programme runs from Monday to Thursday for 3 hours.

Khanimamba Early Childhood Development Model Centre is one of the programmes which are offered by Khanimamba training and resource centre. The activities that are offered at Khanimamba Early Childhood Development Centre are as follows:

1) Daily programme activities

This programme runs from Monday to Friday for 8 hours.

2) Other activities

Gardening activity

​

We do vegetables and fruits gardening to help us feeding programme of children.

​

Networking activities

​

We are affiliated with Giyani Early Childhood Development association. The affiliated ECD centres are divided into smaller groups for easy access. These groups are called support groups. The following activities and competitions are done in the support groups:

  • Music

  • Athletics

  • Culture

  • Soccer and awareness of child protection

ktrc parenting programme

Khanimamba Training and Resource Centre runs a Parenting Programme in Giyani and Malamulele areas, which includes the townships and surrounding villages. The aim of this programme is to train caregivers (Parents) within these areas on how to be responsible on taking care of children. This programme has two sessions. The learning outcome sessions are as follows:

Learning outcomes session 1

  • Knowing and understanding their own values as caregivers and how it affect their children.

  • Knowing and understanding the value of responsive care and playful interactions.

  • Knowing and understanding how play lead to holistic learning and development.

​

Learning outcomes session 2

  • Identifying and describing how feelings of achievement and peer support builds self-esteem

  • Listing and understanding the benefits and examples of responsive care for brain development.

  • Understanding skills, behaviours and attitude that contribute to holistic development through playful interaction and responsive care.
